You Don't Have to Be a Ninja to Kill Your Business Competition

When I say "kill", I mean making sure your customers experience that your business is the only one "alive." Alive in the sense so that your customers ONLY think of your business, product or service when they are making a purchase.

How about being a ninja?

Well, you don't have to be a ninja per se, but be sure to have their quality 3 traits:

1. Instinct

This means having the instinct to figure out what's happening in the marketplace and adapting to it. For example, if your competition starts selling a product that you know will be out of style, have the instinct to not copy them. Be your own and follow your guts.

2. Determination

Be determined enough to go after it all. There's only one winner, anything after first place is just the first loser. Just do it.

3. Patience

There are low times and high times, be able to ride out the low times, and you will eventually see your competition wither. Be the last one standing, ninja style!

What else can you do to make sure customers and clients go to YOU and NOT the competition? Two things:

(1) Provide something that makes you irreplaceable.

This will separate you from all the other businesses and will make you qualified in the eyes of your customers to fill their need.

This requires finding a specific market niche you can focus on, or creating a specific product or service very different from the competition.

For instance, Netflix is by far one of the most innovative services that provide customers the experience of watching movies instantly and with ease.

(2) Partner with other related businesses

If you own a car dealership, you're going to be competing with other car dealerships. The best way to make sure your customers go to you is if you can provide them specific services that can relate to that. For example, by partnering with a business that specializes in car stereos, you can refer your customers to that business to fulfill their car stereo needs. And add more value by giving them a discount if they go to them. Partnering with businesses in different categories that fill a similar customer needs is a sure way to "kill" the competition. Just like ninja's, they team up too!
